Late in the year 1997, an announcement from NEI Power Systems to close the power plant service division inspired an important collaboration between the former service division management of NEI and the establishment of Turbine Generator Services (Pty) Ltd.
The founding directors of Turbine Generator Services, namely John Donaldson, Dave Easterling and John Field, have strong engineering backgrounds in the power generation industry and have worked with some of the world’s leading turbine manufacturers and power utilities. TGS continued the former NEI association with the Rolls Royce group of companies, such as Allen Steam Turbines (Now trading as Weir Allen Steam Turbines) and Allen Gears (Now trading as Baker Hughes GE, incorporating Lufkin and Allen Gears). In 2006 TGS was appointed as distributor for Dawson Technology (Now trading as Heinzmann Australia), introducing electronic governing to compliment the power plant portfolio. In 2011 Neville Palmer joined TGS in support to the electrical and electronic governing services and further appointed as a director in 2013. An increasing scope of work and a decision driven by the importance of in-house quality control led the development, growth and diversity of the in-house services offered by TGS. These developments have resulted in the steady growth of Turbine Generator Services and the increase from 11 to currently over 50 employees. In 2015 John Donaldson retired as a director of TGS and now leads the TGS sales and marketing of Lufkin and Allen Gears products.

The empowerment of employees is the greatest strength of any organisation, making the employees integral to the success of a business. In 2006 TGS established an independent employees trust for all permanent employees to benefit from the success of TGS, through the dividends earned and distributed from the trust. We encourage all employees to take ownership, through the support mechanism offered by the TGS employees trust, and become shareholders of TGS.
